Curse You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

I spend an hour sorting pictures and writing an e-mail in the Peace Corps Office, and what happens, I spend so much time there that I can not range far, for I must return to school, so I have become trapped at this internet cafe, whose computers cannot support a USB connection. Blast, I even had photos of myself.

Alright, next couple of weeks I won’t be on the net, coming weekend I will be camping, next weekend I will be on duty, see what it is like the weekend after that, (better try, because for the next 2 weekend, last of June and first of July, I won’t be able to get online either)

Don’t have time to write, stupid USB driver lacking computer things.

Baby Chameleon found during Training.

Nipe Pesa

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

I hear this every now and then from kids, and sometimes adults, it means give me money. Even my students do it sometimes, though the guys prefer to try and say Nipe Women, they feel that their lives would be complete if they were just married to an American Woman. Mostly I just tell them I don’t know anything about American Women, that is why I am single living in the middle of East Africa.

Mailing a bunch of letters this weekend. I am becoming worried about Addresses though, mostly for my friends in College, soon they may be outdated, so anyone reading this please if your address is changing, e-mail it to me.

Uploading new photos, some of them are of animal life I encountered while in training, the rest are of Mango Ball. This was a sport that was developed, I believe by Jim and Pete due to boredom. It consists of a stick and mangoes, and is played similar to stickball or baseball, but the point is to release aggression by splattering the mango, mind you this is only played with Mangos found on the ground, mangos from the tree are still good enough to be sold by the owners.

By the way Aaron you could have told me they were coming out with a C&C 3, but no, I am just the forgotten member of the family.

Hmm, I usually have a rough outline of a post in my mind, today though was mostly focused on getting to the Post Office and Securicor. Securicor is the Security Courier service that Peace Corps uses to ship Volunteers stuff within Kenya.

Alright peace out.

Argh

Hotmail is becoming a nuisance. Of course at my usual Cafe I am able to shut down the virus protection so Hotmail runs a little bit better.

School starts in 2 days, that means my fun and carefree days are coming to an end, again, for another 3 months. And then another month of fun and carefree. I have thought about running a AIDS/HIV class during the months off, but in reality most people scatter to the 4 winds once school lets out, or are too busy catching up on work that they have been putting off for school. But I must try, I have received flak from other volunteers for not starting a secondary project. Needless to say many times after listening to those volunteers I know where the problem occurs. Many volunteers are sent to sites where there is not much to do, there is not much structure, sure on the off months my site is like that but not during school months. Oh well.

This coming term I will be trying to pick up some additional classes, it might just end up being the PE classes, to allow some consistency for the students in the classes they will actually be examined on. But it will free up the teachers for about 2 hours a week to plan their other classes. Plus it gives me a chance to hang with the students more, who are much more fun to talk to on most subjects, being closer to my age level (granted the Primary school students are much closer to my maturity level.)

Finally planted my second plot of land, hopefully we shall see if anything grows. The plot at school, not just mine, but all the students, are really having trouble, I am not sure what the cause is, but I suspect it is due to the lateness of our planting, it has begun raining to heavy, and the plants are not getting a chance to take root, they are just being drowned, or falling prey to mold or fungus.

My landlord gave me some rat poison, for the rat that lives in my ceiling. Aparently it causes something akin to Ebola in Rats, and if I get it on my skin I must go see a Doctor at once and get Vitamin K intravenously into my veins. Fun stuff to have around the house let me tell you, but luckily PC gave us Latex gloves in our medical kit, might as well put them to some use.

Alright peace out.

Nairobi & Uganda

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Alright so I wrote an e-mail a few days ago about my time in Nairobi and Uganda. I had the intention of writing a longer one today, but Hotmail is not working properly. I know that Yahoo Mail and G-mail work properly, but I have already paid for a hotmail account. (yes i know Hotmail is free, but by paying for my account I don’t have to worry about fiddling with it every 30 days.)

Outside of that nothing much to report, I will be trying again to log on to Hotmail at some later date and time. School doesn’t “start” until Monday the 8th so I have a bit of free time, that will include me sending off a few more letters. I feel like I have been falling behind in that department.

In gist I fell into a hole in Karen Nairobi and got a pretty wicked injury on my leg, and I got a crack in the face by the T-grip on someone’s paddle in Uganda, thus getting a nice gash on my nose. While hanging with some other volunteers I got eaten alive by Mosquitoes, and their new puppies did a number on me, so needless to say my flesh has seen better days.

Here is a random photo from another volunteers site, just wanted to see if I could do it.

Wanted to see how to upload a photo.

Also I need to remember to bring my camera next time, I need a wider selection of photos.

I will post more another time.
