What a Strange Journey It Has Been

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Tonight is the series finale of Battlestar Galactica…yes, the series is finally coming to an end.

It is kinda of a surreal feeling, I remember watching the pilot in the basement of Putnam Hall back at K-State oh so long ago and to have it all end tonight is sort of weird. I still consider Battlestar to be one of the best shows on television and the final season certainly hasn’t failed to deliver. We are really looking forward to finding out what the hell is going on in the show.

However battlestar’s completion brings up another question: What is scifi going to get to replace such a masterpiece? They have a couple shows in the tubes, Caprica and another Stargate, but I think bad times are a coming for my favorite channel.

That feeling is only further enhanced by a troubling bit of news I came across a couple days ago, Scifi is rebranding itself and changing their name to SyFy…

Damn it all to Hell!

Watching the Watchmen…

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Amber and I went to Denver this weekend to catch up with the rest of civilization, and one of our main goals was to go see the movie Watchmen.

I had known about the graphic novel for some time but had not actually taken the time to read it until a couple weeks ago. I thought it was pretty good, if not a little disturbing, and it was an interesting take on the super hero genre.

So here is my review: It was really good!

There was a huge uproar from the fans of the graphic novel when the project was announced, most of them whined that there was no way Watchmen could be made into a movie. I would have to disagree, the movie is as close to the comic as it could be. To anyone who says otherwise I would ask you to double-check the size of your ego because you might be a pretentious snot. I do not hold Alan Moore up on a pedestal, nor should you.

Yes, he delivered an extremely complex criticism of human nature and Cold War hero worship…but you know what also does that, The Simpsons…so get over your inflated self-importance and enjoy the movie.

Oh yeah, as for the ending, the psychic space squid would have been way to complex and incredibly stupid to translate onto the big screen, so quit crying.

My only real complaint is that the movie didn’t do a very good job with Rorschach, people in the theatre were laughing at his lines…seriously, and what is even worse, I think people that are uninitiated with the story will think that he was supposed to be the good guy.

Of all of the comic book adaptation movies that have come out in the past years I feel like Watchmen got it right most often, which is amazing considering the source material.

Heroes

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Amber and I picked up a copy of Heroes Season 1 when we were in KC and to be honest it is one of the best shows I have ever seen, like Battlestar good.

Anyhow, if anyone is interested in a great compelling story pick up a copy as soon as you can.

Sci-FRYdays

It is somewhat of a tradition for us in the Lamble apartment to have delicious stir-fry on fridays nights. It is almost like a reward for a long week of work. Anyhow, it is also a tradition for us to watch sci-fi stuff too!

So far we have barreled through quite a bit of electronic entertainment.

10 Seasons of Stargate SG-1
8 Seasons of X-Files (we are almost done)
2 Seasons of Battlestar Galactica
1 Season of Stargate Atlantis
Various other Sci-Fi themed movies

There is nothing finer in life than a good story and some delicious asian food. It is a great way to spend a friday night! If anyone else wants to adopt our tradition you are more than welcome.

Battlestar and the Future

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

I just finished the second half of Battle Star Galactica Season 2. It was just as great as the first season. In fact I can’t get the ending of the season finale out of my head. Everyone at home will also be glad to know I am sending it back with Amber when she leaves from here next weekend. For anyone that is interested, Rachel and Travis, I would really recommend picking it up. I mean, I did recommend Firefly didn’t I? It’s really good show, it ranks up there with X-Files in my opinion, which means a whole lot.

Speaking of SciFi, the cable channel has a troubled future ahead of it. Even with all of these succesful shows, it has been having huge financial problems. The network has been forced to widen their demographic, thus professional wrestling has been added to it’s tuesday night schedule…This is absolutely the worst thing, in my eyes, that could ever happen to the channel.

First, wrestling has nothing to do with Science Fiction, duh. Second some bigwig executives have caught on and made the suggestion of changing the networks name to Surge TV, to more closely resemble the new vieiwing population they are seeking.

SURGE TV! YEAH, DRINK MOUNTAIN DEW!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE NEXT EXTREME EPISODE OF BATTLESTAR!!!!!!!

Why is the world so cruel? Why can’t we have a decent science fiction channel? Why can’t I watch a decent science fiction channel? Why proffesional wrestling? Why are people so hell-bent on destroying everything good in this world? WHY? WHY? WHY?

Anyhow, the future looks dismal for Scifi, which is unfortunate because I think I might go crazy if I have to hear about one more new crime drama.

I play this game too much…

Frakking A!

So I recieved Battlestar season two in the mail yesterday. It was in a Royal Air mail package, which was kind of cool. I sat down last night and watched seven episodes…there are only 10 in the set. It’s just too good to stop watching!

Anywho, as I was watching it I came to the realization that the full season wasn’t included. Only half of the 20 episodes of season two were there, which is slightly upsetting. However I did some research and discovered the season 2.5 is going to be released later this month. Which is fantastic! I believe it has something to do with how the season was aired over the year, half of it was played during the fall and the other half was played in spring.

As soon as I finish it I might make a halfhearted attempt to send it back home, but probably not.

A bunch of things no one cares about!

The new Alliance race is: Draenei and they can be Paladins…what the fuzz? Eh, the look not-lame enough for me to possibly start an Alliance character.
