Let’s just get it out into the open: This 3D Movie craze is an obnoxious gimmick.
During the 1950s the introduction of the TV caused some serious problems for the movie industry, people just stopped going. Why go see a movie when you get equivalent broadcasting in your own home? Television purchases started to soar and movie ticket sales started to plummet, movie executives were in a real bind. Soooooo, they went to marketing to find a solution, some genius came up with the idea of 3D movies…the industry went with it, and a huge publicity campaign was born to push the proverbial life preserver, 3D movies.
It didn’t last long, people found the glasses cumbersome and distracting. The quality of 3D movies was poor and rushed to capitalize on the fervor, 3D movies faded into the background. (along with the ill-fated Smell-o-Vision)
So why on Odin’s green earth is it coming back? I saw Avatar in 3D…wow, depth perception! The whole experience was extremely distracting and in fact I think subconsciously it is part of the reason I never want to see that movie ever again. Yeah, I said it…what are you going to do now?
Thank Cthulhu Christopher Nolan made a public statement that no movie he ever makes will be in 3D.

All good things come to an end?
Here we find our self in a very different situation than where we began. Strange how things work out, Amber and I had never intended to stay in Colby for the rest of our lives. The plan was to get some experience and when the time was right we would leave at our own volition, but it seems like we can’t always control the future and even the best laid plans often go astray.
In the end, we should see this as a blessing, I had grown quite attached to both my position and my students, we would have never left due to my loyalty to those kids. Now we have no choice, the verdict was thrust upon us, no regrets, no worries and especially no decisions! As my last group of students graduate from High School next year my ties to the school will fade and my legendary status as the “Nerd” teacher will vanish into the annals of non-history.
Even though we are likely to be poor as dirt, we are fairly excited about moving back to KC. The shear volume of opportunities in an urban area dwarf any sort of discomfort we might initial experience. I will be going to school and Amber will inevitably get a job of some sort.
Things will work out…I know this because Amber shared an excellent nugget of wisdom with me…
Amber: “We have to go to KC now…we bought a years membership to the zoo!”

Tonight is the series finale of Battlestar Galactica…yes, the series is finally coming to an end.
It is kinda of a surreal feeling, I remember watching the pilot in the basement of Putnam Hall back at K-State oh so long ago and to have it all end tonight is sort of weird. I still consider Battlestar to be one of the best shows on television and the final season certainly hasn’t failed to deliver. We are really looking forward to finding out what the hell is going on in the show.
However battlestar’s completion brings up another question: What is scifi going to get to replace such a masterpiece? They have a couple shows in the tubes, Caprica and another Stargate, but I think bad times are a coming for my favorite channel.
That feeling is only further enhanced by a troubling bit of news I came across a couple days ago, Scifi is rebranding itself and changing their name to SyFy…
Damn it all to Hell!

Amber and I went to Denver this weekend to catch up with the rest of civilization, and one of our main goals was to go see the movie Watchmen.
I had known about the graphic novel for some time but had not actually taken the time to read it until a couple weeks ago. I thought it was pretty good, if not a little disturbing, and it was an interesting take on the super hero genre.
So here is my review: It was really good!
There was a huge uproar from the fans of the graphic novel when the project was announced, most of them whined that there was no way Watchmen could be made into a movie. I would have to disagree, the movie is as close to the comic as it could be. To anyone who says otherwise I would ask you to double-check the size of your ego because you might be a pretentious snot. I do not hold Alan Moore up on a pedestal, nor should you.
Yes, he delivered an extremely complex criticism of human nature and Cold War hero worship…but you know what also does that, The Simpsons…so get over your inflated self-importance and enjoy the movie.
Oh yeah, as for the ending, the psychic space squid would have been way to complex and incredibly stupid to translate onto the big screen, so quit crying.
My only real complaint is that the movie didn’t do a very good job with Rorschach, people in the theatre were laughing at his lines…seriously, and what is even worse, I think people that are uninitiated with the story will think that he was supposed to be the good guy.
Of all of the comic book adaptation movies that have come out in the past years I feel like Watchmen got it right most often, which is amazing considering the source material.

Probably one of my greatest and most primal of fears in this world is any body of water that I cannot see the bottom of. The mere thought of something waiting in the dark abyss, biding its time until it can pull me down is terrifying. I don’t know why more people don’t share my grave concern of the watery dark, I believe it might have to do with my immense exposure to the horror genre.
From movies and TV to comics and a strange interest in zombies I have been introduced to enough horrific tales that I could relate any given situation to a nightmarish encounter. I mean heck, I have to check and make sure there are no fluke men in outdoor latrines before I can sit down, thank you X-files.
However I would have to say the fears of water would mostly stem from my introduction to the Cthulhu Mythos: Psychotic death cults and evil ancient squid gods would take its toll on even the most sane of individuals.
Interestingly enough ever since I became aware of Lovecraft’s work I have been noticing it more and more in popular culture, Hellboy, WoW and dozens of movies center on the mythos of Cthulhu and what is really strange is…I have never actually read it.
Anyway, those traveling to a body of water beware, squid gods and cult zombies may be awaiting you.

So, my computer has pretty much kicked the bucket, it continually restarts and it seems that data files are constantly corrupting, meaning I can’t pursue my greatest hobby…computer games.
Yes mom, you can say “I told you so!”. However seeing the track record of everyone else’s computers, *cough, dad*, I don’t think I would have been much better off with buying from a store, not to mention it would have cost twice as much.
So what do I do now?

My students have discovered our families blog, what’s even stranger is that they read it…yeah.
So I would suggest no one talks about our secret hobo killing parties and don’t even think about mentioning that other thing…you know what I am talking about.
